Jill Barton
Jill Barton was born in 1940.
She did a number of jobs after leaving school. She helped her husband in his
business of distributing children’s books, which made her want to be an
illustrator. She graduated from Manchester Polytechnic at the age of 48
“having loved every minute of being a student”.
Her first book, Grape Zoo was shortlisted for the 1988 MacMillan’s Prize for Students and The Pig in the Pond was shortlisted in 1993 for the Sheffield Children’s Book Award.
