Author / Illustrator Profile
Georgia Byng

Georgia Byng grew up outside Winchester, near the river Itchen, with her three brothers and a sister. She had a love of acting and performing and together with her sister would put on plays and sometimes invite neighbours – as long as they paid. The money was always sent to The Red Cross apart from enough to buy a bag of sweets each!

At eighteen Georgia went to The Central School of Speech and Drama where she studied for three years. She got her Equity card entertaining children with puppets and had many auditions for acting parts, but not many jobs came her way. So, tired of waiting for the telephone to ring, Georgia concentrated on painting and writing. The painting and writing soon merged into one and Georgia found herself writing and illustrating comic strip stories, but it took five years before she managed to find her first publisher. A picture book and two more young novels followed.

Georgia has written all sorts of other books – fat, thin, old, young, serious, good, bad, and ugly, that all sit on the shelf without publishers. So it was with extra special glee that she greeted the news that Macmillan wanted to publish Molly Moon’s Incredible Book Of Hypnotism. In fact Georgia was over the moon about it!

Georgia lives in London with her daughter Tiger, baby son Lucas and partner Marc. The whole family loves watching films and reading. Lucas is rather fond of eating his books too.
