Michael Coleman was born in London, but has lived in Portsmouth since 1969. He really wanted to be a footballer, but studied maths and computer science at university. His first book Disk Programming Techniques for the BBC Microcomputer had jokes in, to keep the reader awake. Michael enjoyed writing the jokes so much that he wrote ‘ Triv in Pursuit’. He has written more than thirty books for children since then. ‘Hank the Clank’ and ‘Ridiculous!’ have been shortlisted in previous Sheffield Children’s Book Awards.

Michael gave up his computer job in 1993 to write full time and dream about football.
