Author / Illustrator Profile
Jack Gantos

Born in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, Jack moved with his family to Barbados when he was 7, and enjoyed attending British Schools there. He believes he learnt 90% of what he knows now in Barbados before he was 11

When they moved to Florida, Jack found school not as demanding, or as much fun, so he spent most of his day in an abandoned mobile library, reading.

Trying to keep up with his older sister, he started to keep a diary, in which he wrote up anecdotes he had overheard at school. He later used  many of these in his stories. His first book, “Rotten Ralph”, about a cat has been a BBC television series.
