Axel Scheffler
Axel
Scheffler was born in Germany. Although always good at art, he never really
considered a career in illustration. He won his first drawing prize for an
international chocolate company – his prize was a cuddly lilac cow. He studied
the History of Art and later moved to England to study at Bath Academy of Art.
Axel then moved to
London, where he began illustrating for a variety of advertising companies. He
was recommended as illustrator of Julia’s book A Squash and a Squeeze, and an
award-winning team was created
